Empower Brands has initiated a recall of approximately 456,000 units of its PowerXL Stuffed Wafflizer Waffler Makers due to the potential risk of burns.

The recall, issued by the United States Consumer Product Safety Commission (US CPSC) towards the end of last week, serves as a warning to consumers. It highlights that during the use or upon opening of the product, hot pieces of the waffle or stuffing may be expelled from the waffle maker, posing a burn hazard.

The US CPSC has received 44 reports of incidents related to these waffle makers, out of which 34 cases involved burn injuries, with three requiring medical attention.

The PowerXL Stuffed Wafflizer waffle makers subject to the recall include the Power XL Model ESWM02 (five-inch) and PowerXL Model ESWM03 (seven-inch).

The US CPSC further advises consumers to immediately discontinue the use of the recalled PowerXL Model ESWM02 (five-inch) and Model ESWM03 (seven-inch) Stuffed Wafflizer waffle makers. They should then contact Empower Brands to receive a free latch adaptor part and written instructions for completing the necessary repair. The waffle makers were sold in 11 colors, including black, white, red, cinnamon, gray, lavender, lemon, ocean, slate, seafoam, and sage, as stated by the US CPSC.

These waffle makers were available for purchase at various nationwide home goods stores, including Walmart, Kohls, Big Lots, BJ’s Wholesale Club, Best Buy, The Home Depot, Target, Sam’s Club, as well as online platforms such as QVC.com, walmart.com, and kohls.com, among others. The period of sale ranged from July 2021 to October 2022, with prices ranging between $30 and $60.
