According to a recall notice posted on the US Consumer Product Safety Commission website, Family Dollar is recalling beach chair loungers that could cause injury. The recalled beach chairs have a white metal frame and red or blue plastic fabric as a seating surface. According to a notice posted Jan. 26, the beach chair loungers affected by the recall may collapse unexpectedly.

This potential problem poses a risk of injury as the fingers can be pinched by the metal hinges. Fortunately, so far there have been no casualties due to a design malfunction.

The lounge chairs were sold with a tag that reads “Outdoors by Design” on one side and “Distributed by Midwoods Brands LLC” on the other side, along with either SKU 3499631 or SKU 3401281 notated above the bar code.

As well, SKU 3499631 has a tag “Outdoors by Design” at the top and “Midwoods Brands LLC” near the bottom, and SKU 3401281 has a label that read “Warning” and “Do not remove this tag” near the top and “Made in China” at the bottom.

Family Dollar stores across the country are selling beach lounge chairs for about $25 each from January 2019 to September 2021. The retailer also sells items through its online channel at familydollar.com for a specified period of time. In total, about 38,300 chairs were distributed.

If you purchase one of the affected beach chair loungers, stop using it immediately to avoid injury. Instead, return the item to the Family Dollar store and you’ll be eligible for a full refund. You don’t even have to bring a chair to get a refund – you can email Family Dollar with instructions on how to make the beach bed unusable, and you can provide Family Dollar with a photo to prove you did it. After confirmation, Family Dollar will refund the money.
