Yaz May Cause Serious Injuries

Yaz is a birth control product, dispensed in the form of a pill, that is very popular. It is also a drug that is associated with several deaths. In fact, according to reports in multiple news agencies, there were at least 50 people who lost their lives in instances that were associated with using this particular birth control product. There is another name under which this drug is sold, Yasmin, and both of these drugs are prescribed for other purposes than birth control.

Yaz is sometimes prescribed for severe acne and, in other cases, is used in the treatment of premenstrual dysphoric disorder, an extreme form of premenstrual syndrome.

Why Are People Suing?

There are several reasons why people are suing. With people on Yaz, serious injuries can be risks, but misleading advertising was also named in some of the lawsuits. These advertisements claimed that, no matter how bad or minor your acne might’ve been, Yaz was a realistic solution. This isn’t actually true. The FDA never approved this drug for the treatment of minor acne, only severe acne.

The drug was also never approved to treat regular or mild premenstrual syndrome symptoms. It was only approved to treat the very severe premenstrual dysphoric disorder. This has led to lawsuits, as well.

Health Risks

The hormone used in Yaz has been linked to a potentially greater risk of blood clotting. This can lead to strokes, heart attacks, pulmonary embolism and, of course, any one of those conditions can be – and often are – deadly. If you’re on this medication and have suffered any of the side effects, you may wish to contact an attorney about the matter. You would certainly not be the first woman to do so and you will most certainly not be alone.

Product Liability

Pharmaceutical companies have gotten themselves in hot water time and time again over advertising products in a misleading way and over putting products on the market that pose risks that were not fully disclosed to then patients taking them. Pharmaceutical companies are responsible when they do this. These companies pull in billions of dollars in profits a year and, all too often, people end up being harmed to feed those profits. If this has happened to you, it’s important that you contact an attorney as soon as possible. There are limitations on how long you have to act and, if you are injured, you have every right to pursue compensation.
