Pharmaceutical company Haleon has issued a nationwide recall for eight specific lots of Robitussin honey cough syrup. The recall comes after the products were found to have microbial contamination, as stated in a U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) notice posted on Wednesday.

The recalled Robitussin products – Robitussin Honey CF Max Day and Nighttime – are intended to temporarily relieve symptoms related to colds, flu, hay fever, or other respiratory allergies.

Per Haleon, use of the affected products could potentially lead to serious or life-threatening adverse events in immunocompromised individuals. This includes risks like fungemia or widespread fungal infection.

While the notice states that life-threatening infections are unlikely in people with healthy immune systems, the possibility of an infection requiring medical care also cannot be definitively ruled out.

So far, Haleon has not received any reports of people falling ill due to the recalled products, the FDA said.
