Both Playtex and the CPSC (Consumer Product Safety Commission) announced a recall of the Playtex “hip hammock” infant carriers today due to a fall hazard. Playtex has apparently received at least 87 reports of the buckles cracking or breaking, including two reports of injuries (one infant required emergency room treatment).

The Playtex Hip Hammock is designed to strap the baby against the adult’s body at the hip. It is intended for babies that are from 15 to 35 pounds. All model numbers are being recalled (05300, 05301, 05302, 05306, 05307 & 05308).

The Playtex Hip Hammock retailed for $40-60, and was sold at Walmart, Target, Burlington Coat Factory, Amazon.com (from June 2004 through December 2008).

Owners are asked to contact Playtex for instructions on how to receive a full refund at 1-800-522-8230.
