Kia has issued a recall for 427,407 Telluride SUVs due to concerns that they may roll away while in park.

According to a recent report by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), all Telluride vehicles manufactured between 2020 and 2023, as well as certain 2024 models, are affected by this recall. Since its introduction in late 2019, the Telluride has gained popularity among American consumers for its spacious interior. High demand for the Telluride has sometimes outpaced Kia’s production capacity.

The issue stems from a connection problem between metal shafts linking the engine and transmission to the wheels, as outlined in the NHTSA report. This defect can lead to gradual damage, resulting in unintended movement of the vehicle while it’s in park, particularly if the parking brake isn’t engaged. The report also notes that affected vehicles may emit a grinding noise when the damage occurs.

To address this safety concern, Kia advises all affected Telluride owners to visit a Kia dealership to have updated electronic parking brake software installed. The NHTSA confirms that Kia will cover the costs of this repair for affected vehicle owners.

Kia is taking proactive steps to rectify this safety issue and ensure the continued safe operation of Telluride SUVs on the road.
