Two confectionery companies have announced recalls of popular rolling candy products due to a potential choking hazard, according to a warning from the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission. The recalls come after a tragic incident last year in which a 7-year-old girl choked on a rolling candy ball and passed away.

Cocco Candy, based in Turkey and New Jersey, is recalling around 145,800 units of their Cocco Candy Rolling Candy sold in stores and online between May 2022 and March 2023. The recalled candies contain fruit-flavored liquid with spherical centers that can detach and become lodged in a child’s throat. Parents are advised to dispose of the products immediately and contact the company for a refund.

Another recall involves Slime Licker Sour Rolling Liquid Candy, produced by Candy Dynamics of Indiana. An estimated 70 million units, sold at major retailers since June 2015, are affected. The chewy candies pose the same risk of the internal balls coming loose and posing a choking hazard.

The recalls come months after the tragic death of a 7-year-old girl in New York after choking on a Cocco Candy product. All consumers are strongly advised to check any rolling candy purchases and ensure children do not have access to these hazardous treats.
