Mirena® IUD Birth Control Devices by Bayor Linked to Serious Health Issues
Mirena intrauterine devices are used as a contraceptive for women who would rather have a semi-permanent mode of controlling their reproduction compared to the standard pill.
While this is a useful and convenient device, it is not entirely safe. Over the last couple of years, the Mirena IUD, manufactured by Bayer, has been linked to serious injuries leading to severe health complications, some of which may be permanent.
If you had the Mirena IUD inserted as an alternative means of birth control and suffered an injury, you may be entitled to financial compensation by way of filing a product liability lawsuit against Bayer. To speak with an attorney, call 1-877-659-2580.
The Mirena IUD is a method of birth control used by more than 2 million women in America. It is a plastic contraption which releases a hormone that contributes to the production of thick biological matter at the head of the cervix. This then serves as a barrier that prevents sperm from traveling up the cervix and fertilizing the egg. It is T-shaped, and it is said to be 99 percent effective for up to 5 years.
That being said, the Mirena IUD has been implicated in serious health complications that we’ll take a look at shortly. To begin with, it is not uncommon for this IUD (intrauterine device) to get dislodged from the cervix and travel (migrate) to other areas of the reproductive system and cause tissue perforation. This can lead to further infections that may have secondary complications over the long run.
In addition, the Mirena IUD may be expelled from the body, leaving a woman prone to getting pregnant. Other issues with this device include ectopic pregnancies due to hormones in the IUD not being released in sufficient quantities, pelvic inflammatory disease due to device migration leading to infection, development of fibroids and more.
Here are some of the symptoms to watch out for if you have a Mirena IUD:
- Unexplained cramping that does not let up.
- Heavy spotting
- Bloody urine
- Recurrent urinary tract infections
- Fever
- Vomiting
- Nausea
- Migraines
- Back pain
- Blood clots
Individuals who have filed lawsuits against Bayer claim that the drug company did not disclose the fact that this device has a high risk of failure and complications. In addition, they added that the company failed to make it known to the general public about the risks of Mirena, and that it engaged in false and misleading promotional claims (defective advertising).
